Pretty things
I never liked wallpaper much. The designs are either dreadful, plain or out of date. And it is such a hassle to change when you want a different theme or color scheme in your room. The first time I visited my apartment someone did a horrible job on wallpapering the bedroom. It look liked someone had been violently ill against the walls. It was everywhere, greenish brown and it had lumps and bumps. Yugh! Couldn't wait to take it down and plaster the walls with nice white paint.
But I came across Ferm Living's blog a couple of weeks ago and boy did they change my mind. Having seen their wallpaper patterns I feel like going wallpaper mad. Their designs and patterns are really something else. Stylish, urban, gorgeous! One of my favorites is pictured below. It's called The Fir Tree and it's not just the wallpaper I like. I want that whole room, it's fab. When you visit their shop, you should also check out their pillows. And their wall stickers. Ah heck, check out everything, they're great!

All I want for Christmas
My favorite season has to be winter. I love it when it's so cold outside that if you get back in the house the warmth makes your fingers and toes tingle. I love it when it gets dark early so you can light every candle in the house and watch the little flames cast funny shadows on the wall. I love the way the Christmaslights brighten up the streets and seem to cheer everyone up.
But my favorite favorite favorite thing about winter is snow. Nothing feels better than taking a stroll outside in the fresh snow. The sunlight seems so bright, the air feels crisp and you can hear and feel the the snow crackling under your feet.. To me that's pure bliss.
We hardly ever get snow around here. But I've got a plan. I'm asking Santa for some. Just enough to turn the world white, build a wee little snowman and throw some snowballs at my brother. So Santa, if you happen to read this. Prettyplease bring me some snow. It's all I want for Christmas. Honest!

Pretty things
I found this sixties cabinet on a Dutch auction site. Such a pretty little piece of design. I also love the way they kept the room clean, sober and white, making a real feature of the cabinet.
I would love to have that as a dressing table, but someone beat me to the punch. The cabinet is already reserved for someone else.
Lucky bastards.

What makes a house a home?
It's different for everyone. Some can't do without their favorite colors on the wall. Others have a special piece of furniture they cannot live without. But sometimes a certain scent or the way the sunlight flows into a room can make you feel right at home.
It took me a while to even feel somewhat at ease in my appartment. Noisy neighbours, bums who roam the halls at night and the fact that the building has the charisma of a concrete parkinglot do not help when you're trying to create a home. And after living here for 3 years I still am a long way from home. But little by little I am turning this heap of concrete in a warm cosy comfort zone.
My latest piece of decoration is old, rusty, beaten down, tired and if I plug it in this whole building will probably go up in smoke.. But I love it to bits. It just brightens up my living room in a whole different way.
My dad used to have a lamp just like that. He kept it tucked away in a corner of the living room. He used it when he had to take splinters out of our fingers, help us with our homework, when my mum needed to thread a needle, pay the bills or when he had to mend one of our toys (again).
So many memories I have of my dad are somehow connected to this old lamp. He really makes my house feel a bit more like home.
